séismes
Séismes is a collective of women musicians, founded in 2023. Séismes brings together Aline Bissey (flute), Léa Ciechelski (saxophone, voice), Marine Flèche (drums), Yurie Hu (keyboards, viola, voice), Mélanie Loisel (double bass), and Tatiana Paris (guitar).
The collective’s first concert took place at Le Petit Faucheux on March 8, 2023, during an event supporting the fight against violence against women. The energy of that concert, and more broadly of our encounter, deeply marked all of us, and what was meant to be a one-off meeting grew stronger in the months that followed. The ensemble is conceived as having a flexible geometry, depending on who is present, which sometimes results in surprising instrumentations and setups according to the concert proposals.
Each member has developed, within her own projects, a singular identity, woven from personal obsessions, encounters, inspirations, and languages. Our horizons and paths are so diverse that there is a joyful challenge in intertwining ourselves to create music together.
We came together to create non-idiomatic improvised music, imbued with everything that we are. This music follows unexpected paths, drawing from these diverse horizons, sometimes giving the unsettling impression of being composed.
These are instantaneous compositions, nourished by images that resonate with each individuality. Each musician has her own cockpit, filled with objects, digital processing, modes, and extended playing techniques, with voices also finding their way inside. We explore scales, the spatial dimension of our sounds, and a play of shifting temporalities.
The textures composed in these moments carry particular emotions. Forms emerge and dissolve, things bustle, it feels like cooking. Motifs are born and burst. It is playful, intense, and luminous. Landscapes are created in situ, then crack and fracture. A pop theme takes shape, then within it — or just after — a subtle and vibrant breach appears. This type of incision and quotation is manifold in Séismes. We allow ourselves all kinds of circulations and idioms. Motifs radiate, drawn toward a dazzling light. And then a turn, like on a mountain road, where the horizon is not immediately graspable. A sudden collective surprise.
Séismes is a laureate of the Grands formats project supported by the Office national de diffusion artistique (ONDA), a selection that supports large-scale artistic works and touring partnerships. (Onda)
A new album is scheduled for release in November 2026, representing the next chapter of the ensemble’s artistic journey.
